International Orphanage Development Programme

potatogirl
  • The International Orphanage Development Programmes ambition is to sustainably improve the lives of every institutionalised child in the developing world. In Belarus they have provided playgrounds, libraries and mobile phones to 60 orphanages which are home to 11,000 children, have completely renovated the 11 worst Belarusian orphanages, adding roofs, windows toilet facilities, showers furniture and dozens of other improvements including, in 6 orphanages, 100-acre tillage farms with complete suites of farm machinery.
  • Adopting a community-based approach to sustainable development, support from the One51 Foundation for Farm Development Projects has enabled IODP to empower orphanages to become independent and self-sufficient. This initiative significantly improves food security and provides an essential means of nourishment for the orphans.

  • Given our agricultural heritage, the One51 Foundation has enabled the provision of farm machinery, seeds and fertilisers for the establishment of orphanage farms in eastern Belarus. The farm development projects are designed to be self-sustaining and profit-generating, thus providing income necessary for the day-to-day management and maintenance of the orphanage. The projects also provide vocational training which gives the children a vital means of livelihood in a country where many rely on subsistence agriculture.
