Huruta, Ethiopia
- The Huruta Programme of Rural Development in Ethiopia commenced in the spring of 2006, with funding provided by the One51 Foundation. This programme, implemented by Self Help Africa supports the agricultural component of rural livelihoods for a population of over 112,000 across 46,000 hectares. Situated 140km south-east of Addis Ababa, problems in this part of Ethiopia are multidimensional:
- Inadequate educational services, health services, health services and water services, poor soil fertility, unreliable rainfall, inadequate agricultural technologies and high incidence of crop diseases coupled with a high rate of natural resource degradation, affect agricultural production and productivity.
