Huruta, Ethiopia
The objective of the project is to contribute towards poverty reduction and increase food security through a number of integrated programmes:
- Focusing on increasing Crop and Livestock production and productivity
- Improving Natural Resource Management through soil and water conservation
- Improving Educational services through the construction of a High School
- Improving medical services through the construction of a Public Health Centre and the development of a Revolving Drug Scheme
- Improving the rural water supply through rainwater harvesting and irrigation schemes
- Developing Savings and Credit Cooperatives for Micro Finance.
Tree nurseries, seed multiplication co-operatives, savings and credit co-operatives, HIV and Aids support groups, and environmental rehabilitation programmes have been undertaken, while measures to improve access to social services has seen the project construct a new second level school, build a new health centre, and develop a range of measures to improve local access to safe, clean drinking water.
